How to Administer a Bolus

General Guidance

  • Each ewe gets 1 bolus and 1 Microbullet™.
  • The Microbullet™ reduces the risk of calcification.
  • After the lifetime of the bolus the Microbullet™ breaks down

Application Instructions

Load Applicator

  • First insert the micro-bullet into the chamber.
  • Then insert the bolus – flat end first into the chamber.
  • Ensure both the micro-bullet and bolus are securely held in the applicator chamber.

Inserting the applicator

  • Place the bolus end of the applicator into the centre of the sheep’s mouth, to the back of the tongue.
  • Ensure the sheep’s head and neck are extended in a straight line.

Avoid:

  • Severe pressure on the tongue.
  • Using force damaging teeth or any soft tissue.

Bolus Release

  • Ensure the bolus gun is fully inserted into the throat of the ewe.
A guide is that the tip of the ewes nose should be touching the butt of
the handle. DO NOT withdraw the gun when squeezing the trigger..
  • Gently squeeze the trigger, releasing the bolus.
and Microbullet over the back of the tongue..
  • Count to 2 before withdrawing the applicator from the ewe.
The mouth remaining open will encourage a swallowing reflex
    and avoid regurgitation.
  • Carefully remove the applicator, maintaining its central
    position in the mouth..
